"Hey Graham, I read your script, and I agree with most of what Rebecca said. I liked it. It needs tweaking here and there maybe, theres always room for improvement. I agreed that the narrators voice can be intrusive. I…"
Check out some of Smooth-on's stuff if you're interested; I don't know if it's the best choice, but I've gotten some good milage out of some Eco-flex 30 I picked up a while back. You could do a lot worse. You just mix equal parts of A and B, wait a few hours, and hey presto, you got rubber.
The main things I've learned about silicone are:
There are two main kinds: platinum cure, and tin cure. Tin cure is cheaper, but platinum cure is what you want for puppets.
There's a lot of stuff that inhibits platinum silicone from curing (including tin silicone!), so read up on that before deciding what to use for a mold. I've used a different sort of platinum silicone, but really, a hard material would be better for casting a soft rubber object.
Silicone does not stick to anything except more silicone -- but then it really sticks. Get the right sort of mold release if you're casting silicone in silicone.
Beyond that, the internet has a wealth of info on it, and I hear Smooth - on is really good at answering questions. Go forth and research!
Thanks for commenting on my page about my video. I'm glad that you felt the emotion I put into Sola Luna. Animation is awesome, but when animation has attributes that affect the viewer, it is even more awesome. Again, thank you. :)
thanks dude! You're comment means a lot to me! The webs were fucking annoying haha. They are made from super thin strands of polypropylene, and they kept getting stuck to my models haha. Any time a character had to move, it would gradually begin destroying the set!
Yeah, having a team really helped. I am no master of sound, so my sound designer was great, and the actors were a fun lot to work with. I have my horror stories with actors, being a mostly live action filming kinda guy. But everyone was great! Online sites such as this are great to connect with people to give you advice on your projects, and Facebook often has pages dedicated to aspiring voice actors and such, as well as there are good websites where you can recruit.
