I've got a character design that is like a unicycle; the lower body has a single wide wheel rather than a pair of legs. Rather like a unicycle. My question is about a tie-down strategy for the puppet.
The wheel of course needs to rotate, so I was thinking a stand/rig that attaches to the hub of the wheel; the axle would have a fitting on each side, and the rig would be on the side away from camera, but the thought of all that rig removal has my eyeballs swimming. Magnets are an option but every part of the wheel would need metal in it, and I worry about weight...and I also want the character to lean into turns in order to bank, pulling part of the wheel off the ground.
Is this a case where an articulated support rig is really the way to go, or is there another option?
