Hi everyone, I just released our new armature kits. The kits are called Bend-D's and are based around hollow 3-D printed parts. I plan to work on new designs in the future based on what animators are looking for.

So my question is - what is your first impression, both good and bad? What would you want to see in an armature like this? Also - is the price a fair price? I'm pricing them at $79.99 USD.

I don't want to post all the photos but you can see more detailed images on our page here: https://www.stopmotionstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&am...

There's also a video on that page showing how it is put together. I still need to make up an instructional sheet for these, though it's actually pretty straight forward of a process. I'd really  be happy to hear from other animators on things they'd like to see.

Here is a photo of what they currently look like:

I think it's an good idéa but why would you 3d print the parts if you are using them for mass production?
PVC or ABS parts from china are often allot cheaper and they will be precise.

If you are able to to the rig a bit modular you could have a reusable rig with out epoxy/super glue and that would be like lego but for animation dolls. :D

All very true Blackshore, but you have to remember that to mass produce something means you are selling masses of them. I only sell a few per week, so I'm sticking to my mass-less production techniques for now. If Wal-Mart ever took notice in these I would definitely go with a much faster production method.

I was not aware of the small quantity.  Sorry about that. min orders is about 1000 items I'm afraid.

I did a small calc:

Yeah it's not economical for me. Plus I'm working on a new design, so each design would set me back easily what....10K? I'd hate to charge a lot for the kits just to make up for all the tooling and what not. Not a bad initial idea though :)

I would have gone with one of those "break-apart-sheets" as warhammer models use.

You could also check out http://www.mayku.me/ They are going to release a "injecto box" in the future, not sure how that is going to work however.

I do think your product can evolve into something much greater in this time considering that automation is taking over allot of dayjobs, artistic work is something a computer cannot do.
So if you where able to make contracts with schools and toy stores you will easily need to make several thousand of these per month and Green Peace will throw a brick threw your window. :P
