I can't post any photos or video just yet, because my machine has no animation models in it now in order to show what it does... but, it's like a 'zoetrope' only better. It requires no strobe light and this first test model that I've constructed can play a 6 second loop of animation at 15 frames per second.
I'm a bit of an inventor (which has always been my greatest strength in the field of stop motion) and this is a concept I've had in my head for many many years and now it's a reality and it works. There is another creation called a 'zoetrope' that plays short loops of animation under strobe light lighting, but the advantage of my machine is that it can play a loop of animation much longer (machine design determined) and doesn't need any special lighting requirements.
It's sort of like I've invented the movie projector before I've created any movie film to go in it. My entire goal was to build the machine to play the animated models that will be put in it. I completed that task today. Now onto the next phase... creating the models...
Sounds intruiging. Will be fascinating to see your progress. Good luck!
Wow, that really is cool!! I remember when I was a teenager I had a simple zoetrope that was really just a strip of paper, glued to cardboard, that you bend into a ring shape and then you can spin it. It had vertical slits cut in between the pictures that you would look through, which created the effect of a shutter opening and closing rapid-fire. Pretty cool! But yours will be far superior -- like an animated Viewmaster! How big is it?
