Are LED light bulbs, the screw in kind you can get at WalMart, Home Depot, ect.., suitable for stop motion work?

Or will  they create a flicker artifact "flicker" on screen?

I haven't used those sorts of bulbs specifically, but I would guess that flicker would be less of a problem than color quality -- they don't usually come with CRI ratings, but odds are good you're going to end up with something under 90, which is generally the bare minimum threshold for quality lighting. You might wind up with weird green or magenta casts to deal with.

I have been using ones from ikea - basically the same quality - and they work alright.  The light quality isn't the best, but it definitely gets the job done.  On that note, after about a year and a half of using them, I am ready to upgrade to something more professional.

I have used two from GeekBuyinf, it works fine.

There are some very good high CRI LED strips now available, which give good colour balance and don't have a greenish cast. Available on eBay, look for 80+ CRI or even 95+ CRI (100 is perfection...)

If you combine these with a very fast PWM dimmer, then youb are unlikely to get flicker. The type I have used are 10kH, available on ebay for very little money.

DIY Perks is a YouTube site where he shows several projects for film lights. I adapted his designs to make some lights using warm white, cool white and ice blue LED strips, all independently dimmable, so I can adjust the colour temperature to whatever I want.
