Here is a link about it.
But does it do animation?
I feel skeptical.
heh-heh! I just saw this tonight too, linked from No Film School! The fact that it is 720p in h264 is a big time deal breaker for me, but hopefully this kind of thinking will continue to develop and give new life to old Super 8mm cameras. I remember getting super-excited when I first heard about the Digital Bolex, but let down when I realized it was a completely new camera instead of a digital " roll of film ". I guess that it's too much to ask that one day somebody invents a digital system to fit the film mag for a CP 16 !!!
As far as NoLab goes, you are WAY better off sticking with a still camera for shooting animation.
For nostalgic reasons it would be fun to get my old Sanyo operational again. It took six months of getting up at 4 in the morning every day to deliver newspapers to get it in my hands the first time.
If this cartridge is cheaper than a Digital Bolex or even low grade camcorder from Best Buy, it might be worth it. Giving new life to old tech is pretty cool. I like that it'll have film looks built in. Now if it could record in RAW CinemaDNG, they'd really be on to something!
