Simon Tytherleigh replied to Mark Francombe's discussion Canon EOS + Nikon dragonframe combo... Im talking about the "flickering"
"I had a lot of problems with using tungsten lights and flicker, but have not had any since going over to LEDs. I think it may have been the high current draw of the tungsten lights being affected by things like the washing machine switching on and…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Count Croc's discussion Weathering aluminum foil
"This may not help, but I decided to try to make some small helmets using a scaled down version of the Cosplay armour that is all over YouTube. So I used 2mm EVA foam, which glued well with contact adhesive. I coated it with several layers of PVA and…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Darcy Phillips's discussion working to existing audio track
"Don't entirely dismiss the remote keypad. I have the wireless version, and it is brilliant for when you are animating one side of the camera and the monitor is the other. I use it all the time!"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Gavin A's discussion Best Editing Software
"Would be interested to hear more about how you get on, as I have just installed Resolve, and am struggling through the learning process. It looks like an all-in-one package, with effects, sound and colour. Are you using the effects in Fusion, and if…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Sandro's discussion Dragonframe and Sony Cameras
"The Sony camera is a mirrorless one, and the only Canon mirrorless cameras currently supported by Dragonframe, last time I looked, were the EOS R and RS at around £1500 for the body only.  The advantage of a mirrorless camera is that the…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Dylan Henderson's discussion Character Proof of Concept
"Nice video!  Dunno if this might help with the cape, but I made one using two thin layers of cloth and dressmaking interfacing to glue them together. This has the effect of stiffening it up but still allowing creases and folds. I put wire round…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Count Croc's discussion I need suggestions for my new film
"What you need is this wonderful book: Ideas for the animated short , by Sullivan, Alexander, Mintz and Besen. It is inspirational.  Bobby Yeah by Robert Morgan was also made in a sequential way. I think it is available on YouTube. Quite a…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to John A (filmmaker)'s discussion Dreams and Nightmares
"I would add to that. Stop motion requires such precise organisation, and often live action filmmakers seem to come across as positively sloppy by comparison. Even worse with theatre, where nothing gets finalised until the last rehearsal. But for…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Jet Zhang's discussion Sculpture material of puppet hands
"Well, practise on a simple mould first. Here's what you need to do, assuming it is a hand or similar that requires a two part mould. First you surround the sculpt with soft clay up to the level of halfway. I like to use water clay (which does…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Aj Shenefelt's discussion What to use for set background?
"I am having great results using a chromakey blue background, stretched on a frame. This can be lit to look like a blue sky. Bought a 3m X 2m piece for about £25."
