"If your budget is low, then for the mushroom I would definitely go for a cushion foam with armature inside - don't forget you need something to grip when it is on set - smoothed out with some physio wrap and then coated with builder's…"

"Thanks so much for your answer ! I'll try the latex option for the hands since I already have the armature for them and they may need some hair, and for the mushroom, I'm low on budget so maybe I'll try to make a foam covered armature…"

"1. The great thing about making latex hands is that you never have to worry about getting the wires in the right place, as you are building up the surface. Sculpting for silicone hands is fiddly and making the mould delicate and time-consuming. But…"

"Also, here are some photos of the molds And I need some advice, cause I failed an attemp of creating a puppet, too much silicone I think, how could I make a better and functional armature for this puppet? "

Hey There everyone !Thanks so much with the last comments, I had two questions though:1. I need to make the beast´s hand for the puppet, but I don´t know if casting it in silicone would be better than making it with latex, what do you guys think?2. I just finished casting another puppet with Platsil Gel-10, what do you use for painting the puppet? I´ve seen some Acrylic work working in these kind of silicones, but I don´t know if they will work well. What do you advice? Thanks to everyone, this…See More

"Shoulder blades were a bit of a challenge, so I made a t-shaped hollow plaster mould and slush moulded them. I followed the way you made boots, so there's your influence in another context! For much of the other flesh I used physio wrap …"

"Nice how the shoulder blades and hip bones stick out!  Yep, has just the right lean and hungry look. I went for a similar mangy effect with my version of Brown Jenkin, but the scrawny body came up more hound-like than rat-like once you take…"

"Here we are. A couple of stills. I have only animated that short clip so far, but it seemed to go well. They have ball and socket armatures and are able to stand on their hind legs. I think the paler fur works better for the mangy effect."

"Thanks Simon.  Short clip but very cool!  Hounds look great, I like the sparsely furred effect with skin showing.  Would have liked some other angles, just see the front in this one, but what I see is perfect!"

"Thanks for the info! I watched a lot of your tutorials and read some guides from the forums, I have a question though, would you recommend me making the hands of the puppet by casting in silicone or by latex layering around the armature?"

"The legs will need to be strong to support those arms!   2 strands of the 1/8th" armature wire might do it.  I'd go to 3 strands but the legs are also very short so 3 strands might be too hard to bend. Furry Creatures: Sometimes…"
