A very elaborate etude, this is an "assignment" i gave myself to practice stop motion animation and test an armature design. This is the captain, and this is his dance.
The music is of course Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. The captain now looks like this: http://vimeo.com/54641390

whistle   nice. How long did it take you to shoot? how many sessions?

Comment by Ri Crawford on January 13, 2014 at 6:15pm

well... i shot it over about 8 months. no idea how many sessions, but the last one was the only time i've gotten over a 1000 frames (or anywhere close) in one day.

Lol I can't believe you animated all the way through Bohemian Rhapsody. So Epic. Your "assignment" was longer than most animated short films.  Your increased comfort level with the armature became apparent as it progressed. Towards the end the shifting of his weight looked very believable, and the movements were much more expressive and natural. Great job Ri.

I've never managed to animate 1000 frames in a day.  I did one long tracking shot a full minute in length once, which was just over 1500 frames, but I did that over two long days. Otherwise around 400 frames would be close to maximum.

Been waiting for 4 minutes, so far only "is this the ree..." has loaded.  Crappy Aussie narrowband.  Might go away and have a beer, read a book, come back in half an hour.

thanks bob! and yeah... its a neat little record of improvement (and commitment) over the time. by the way, just gave you dough for your kickstarter! good luck, and looking forward to the finished film!

I just saw that Ri! We really appreciate your generosity and support buddy, and we look forward to the finished version as well. Say hi to the Mad God crew for me!

Cheers!
