Quick and dirty test animation with the pizza boy standing idle. Lots of flicker due to substandard lighting but here it is anyway! Oh and there is no focus on facial expressions as I am just testing the armature.

The flicker did not seem over problematic... What kind of armature (brand) are you using? I just put together armacreature armature. I am new to making armatures. How much tension is too much tension on the joints?

I am also using an Armacreature armature from animationtoolkit.co.uk. How much tension you require between the plates is entirely up to you as an animator, I usually have the legs relatively tight as if a foot is raised then all the weight is being transferred through the opposite leg meaning the joints need to be able to take the strain. You will find you will need to tension the joints between shots and probably during depending on the action being performed. Hope this helps somewhat, I look forward to seeing your armature in action

Thanks for the insight!

Hi Will, great bit of animation. Here's a quick Vimeo on reducing lens flicker as used by us: http://vimeo.com/30974031

Good luck Dana with your armature, hope you get some really good results!

I imagine so, I use a different technique to reduce flicker by using manual lenses i picked up on ebay for about £15 a piece and a M42 pentax to Cannon adapter (basically a metal ring that allows you to fit pentax mount lenses onto your cannon) This cuts off the connection so you cant use the auto features, but that is what is needed. This has worked brilliantly for me so far but does mean you would have to get the ring (mine was £5!) and some manual lenses. Obviously this video doesn't do this technique justice as i had not blacked out the room and sunlight was causing flicker.
