A marionette maker strives to create the perfect vessel for a pair of glass eyes, which he believes to be identical to those of his first and only love. His passion turns into obsession as he constructs puppet after puppet, discarding those he sees as unworthy for the eyes. Our story takes place on the cusp of the completion of his latest creation, the one he hopes will bring his madness to an end, but will he succeed?

Wow. This knocked me out. Beautiful film.

The direction and camerawork are both excellently done. The density and abundance of set dressing is a treat for the eyes. The animation is lovely and the music accompanies the whole film perfectly.

Brilliant film. Loved it!

From models to music, that was beautiful; absolutely hypnotic. Well done.

That's awesome! Very absorbing and slightly disturbing, wonderful atmosphere and extremely concise storytelling.  Didn't notice the technicals like compositing or, frankly, the animation which is so beautifully observed as to be invisible... as it should be.  It's a perfect length because I wanted to watch more.

Thanks for all the great comments! It was an amazing project to work on and such a great course and I would reccomend it to anyone wishing to enter higher education and study animation. It's screening in Bristol at the end of the month in the Encounters 2013 Short Film & Animation festival. I'll be there for some of it and watching Marionette if anyone wanted to join! Again thanks for the kind words!

Hi Matthew!

I work for Ashton Kutcher's YouTube channel, ThrashLab, and am helping them get the word out about a video competition we're holding. We're looking for videograhers and artists who want to compete for a $15,000 prize. After checking out your work I thought you might be interested in submitting. We have a bunch of different categories you can submit a video under. One of the categories is stop motion, so I'm hoping that's right up your alley. By submitting a video of 3 – 60 minutes, it will give you publicity on a large scale, along with the chance to win a cash prize!  Let me know if this is something that interests you.  The official rules can be found here:

http://desireecasting.com/The_Ultimate_Video_Search

One of only 100 channels created by YouTube and given to Hollywood production companies, celebrities, and media outlets, ThrashLab is focused on bringing serious artists to a mainstream audience.

Let me know what you think. I'm happy to answer any questions that you might have. You can reach me at ultimatevideosearch@gmail.com.

Thanks!
