Simon Tytherleigh replied to Twin Tales's discussion Lighting feedback
"Not sure if the shot is too dark. This is where it all becomes a matter of judgment. If you want a seedy, late-night bar feel, then having the background quite dim is fine. The lighting on the figure is essentially separate, different in colour as…"

Twin Tales replied to Twin Tales's discussion Lighting feedback
"Thanks alot, I'm noting everything down. Looking at it now, I agree that the shirt is to bright and that the light should be more on his face. And maybe that the shot is still a bit to dark. We tried to backlight him a bit more but it took away…"

Iulian Demetrescu replied to Twin Tales's discussion Question about lighting
"HI, you will definitely need LED's. They are versatile, small and can be virtually fit in any shape you want to make. Be careful with Christmas lights because they are powered from mains and i've seen some cheapy ones causing a lot of…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Twin Tales's discussion Lighting feedback
"Hi there. Atmosphere definitely looks good. I can get the bar feel. Not much top light on his hair, and one might expect bar lighting to come from overhead. But there is something very important about film lighting that you need to pay attention to.…"

Lighting feedback

Hey! Was practicing some lighting and would appreciate if someone would like to give some feedback on this shot. The focus was mostly to get the lighting correct and good looking. It's meant to be a seedy bar environment during the night but inside the bar the lights would be a bit dimmed but turned on to give the room some overall lighting, we did not want it to be to dark. We tried to create some depth with the door to the left of the character. And we also tried to make 4 layers of dark,…See More

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Twin Tales's discussion Question about lighting
"If the lights get hot, they are definitely not LEDs. LEDs do not rely on a glowing filament, instead there is some sort of interaction between dissimilar chemical compounds that is about 80% efficient in light emission."

Twin Tales replied to Twin Tales's discussion Question about lighting
"The christmas lights looks very good and it's exactly that kind of lights I'm looking for. Those I bought got so damn hot, but I think those weren't LED lights. Yeah the bulb hanging down is probably added in post."

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Twin Tales's discussion Question about lighting

"Thanks for the reply and that sounds like a good idea. Do you have a link to what kind of led lights you used? I don't live in US so its kind of hard getting special stuff like that. ;)"

StopmoNick replied to Twin Tales's discussion Question about lighting
"I used to use small halogens as practical lights, but found I had to switch them on, quickly take the shot, then switch them off while I moved the puppet for the next frame.  They got too hot, and sometimes I used plastic parts to make shades…"

Question about lighting

Hello! Im not an expert in lighting. But Im looking to get some small lights to simulate  light coming from say a desk lamp.Kind of like the lights visable in these images. (below)What kind of lights do they use? I bought a really cheap candlestick light from IKEA, but they got really hot after a while and that kind of worried me. And they didn't seem that reliable overall. Any tips on where and what lights to purchase?…See More
