Stop Motion Armatures in the US

I've just relocated  back to the States after seven years studying in the UK. I used animationsupplies.net to get armatures for all the short films I made in my UK studio. Now back in New York, I…Continue

"Thanks Simon for the tips. If I order it I'll post a detailed review. For your comment, I am currently looking into a supplier from China for the drilled steel balls. The only thing that I have a hard time finding are the joint plates.…"

"A word of caution. I recently saw one of these armatures, and it was clear that the balls are not perfectly round, so moving the joints would be an issue. They look like they are designed for posing as dolls, so do not need to move much. You might…"

"Thanks to both of you for your replies! I've done a bit more research and concluded I'm better off making my own from scratch. It would be too expensive to ship from the UK, and Greyguy is right - it's a useful skill to develop."

Stop Motion Armatures in the US

I've just relocated  back to the States after seven years studying in the UK. I used animationsupplies.net to get armatures for all the short films I made in my UK studio. Now back in New York, I can't find a US equivalent. I've seen online stores selling animationsupplies.net armatures but for much higher prices. I'd appreciate some advice from any US-based animators. What's your favorite source for ball-and-socket armature kits? Or do you prefer to make your own from scratch? Thanks in advance!See More

"I bought a secondhand MacBook Pro (early 2008 model) with Adobe CS5 on it, only 4 Gb RAM, and it ran very well. I now have another secondhand MBP (late 2011 - never used!) 8Gb RAM and a faster processor (2.6 I think). It's going very nicely.…"

Choosing a New Laptop For Animation

I am considering a new laptop, but I want to make sure I make the right choice before investing. It is very important to me that it is still compatible with the animation and editing software that I am used to.My current computer is a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. It has 8GB RAM, a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 319 GB storage.I do most of my animation in Dragon Stop Motion (the 2010 edition) with a Canon Rebel T1i and edit in Adobe After Effects CS5 and Final Cut Pro.I would be very…See More

Thoughts About Talent Agents/Managers for Animators and Filmmakers

This is something I've been curious about, but can't seem to find a lot of information on - does anyone here know anything about working with a talent agent or manager?I've encountered this in the publishing world, where there is a very straightforward path available if you are looking for representation (i.e. you write a book, put together a query letter and synopsis and send them out along with sample pages to agents who are interested in your genre). Is there anything similar for…See More
