1:6 scale props

Does anyone have any suggestions on purchasing 1:6 scale props? I've found that there's much more 1:12 props. I have found some things in Ken and Barbie sets on E-bay. Continue

"'Very powerful' would be an understatement if you are using a 1"x1" neodymium magnet. Depending on the weight of your final puppet you could start with 6x3mm and go up from there if it doesn't hold well enough. I think you…"

Tie downs (magnets)

I have a perforated galvanized steel sheet animation stage and my puppet works well with screw tie downs but I want to use magnets because I'm planning on covering the steel with canvas so that I can paint it so that it resembles flooring inside an apartment and I don't want to have to keep drilling into the canvas and repairing it and I thought it would be quicker using…See More

"Hi Devin I think you will find an LED panel a more useful item. There are quite a lot of them around, and some reviews from DSLR Shooter on YouTube. Because you are using a long exposure, you don't need masses of light and therefore don't…"

"The way LEDs are dimmed is by using a PWM dimmer, which essentially switches the light on and off to reduce the brightness. This happens very fast, too fast for the human eye to notice, but it might affect camera shots especially if done with a fast…"

Lights (LED's and dimmers)

I'm looking into purchasing LED lights for a stop motion project. Does anyone have any recommendations? My plan is to get higher powered LED lights (20W=200W incandescent) and to use a dimmer to adjust the brightness. Is using a dimmer okay to in stop motion or will that cause flickering? I was planning on using a shutter speed of 1 second or longer. Here's some of the lights I'm looking at:…See More

"It is also possible to buy some 'latex thickener' which would give you some control over the gloopiness of the latex. But if you use the dipping latex which produces thinner coats, they set off quicker, so you just dip more times.…"

"Would it make sense to use both the thicker mask making latex and the thinner dipping latex? Maybe use the thicker latex for the first layer dabbed on the polyurethane cushion foam and then use the thinner latex for more detail on the next layer. Or…"

Simon Tytherleigh replied to Devin Pingree's discussion Foam latex build up materials (Monster Makers)
"The difference between the dipping latex and the latex foam is that the dipping latex is pre-vulcanised, meaning it will go off when exposed to air at room temperature. The foam latex requires mixing and then cooking in an oven to drive off the…"
