Brown Jenkin, from the H P Lovecraft story Dreams in the Witch House. Originally I was going to get Richard Svenssonto animate his Brown Jenking puppet, but I decided I wanted to put it in a large scale set rather than just green screening it in. I still think his is the definitive version. But I went for this variation, with much sparser fur so the skin and bones could show through, just to be different. Jenkin is a rat with a human head - head needs to be a bit ratty to go with it, but not too ratty or you've just got... a rat. A lot of the inspiration for this version came from Max Shreck's portrayal of Nosferatu, a vampire with an affinity for rats rather than bats.

Nick,
That's nightmare-fuel.
Very well executed! :)

That looks really good Nick! Are we going to get to see it animated?

Comment by StopmoNick on November 24, 2016 at 12:44am

I have done the animation, but there's a long way to go on the film it appears in.  Mostly held up by my writer's block - can't write dialog that sounds right, and do all kinds of other stuff to put it off.  But this is probably the last bit I can do without the pre-recorded voices, so I'm running out of delaying tactics.

Meanwhile you can see Richard Swenson's puppet being animated, on his Bluworm channel at Youtube, in Concerning Brown Jenkin.  https://youtu.be/81RJGtPJcmU

Cool Nick.  Best of luck on that dialogue.  That's not an easy task, but you can do it.  Thanks for sharing the animation of that creepy little guy.

Very realistic, i like all the features, especially the fur, nails tail and the head, nice and creepy too! well done, hope to see a great set for him :)

That's his set, a full scale section of the 1:6 corridor and door set.

The second photo with Jenkin leaping down was shot green screen, so it can be composited into this shot of the 1:6 set, instead of the mini-rat stand-in seen in this frame.  I shot each frame with and without the mini-puppet, so I could either use the little one or not use it.  As it turned out, it's not similar enough to the bigger puppet I've now made.
