I'm here, it has gone a bit quiet though! I think they all defected to facebook :(
Yes, I reluctantly joined FB to keep in touch with a few who don't turn up here much any more. Don't know if Mike (Strider) is on FB though. He pops in here occasionally, like once every 3 or 4 months.
I reluctantly joined facebook some years ago after Ronnie Burkett invited me (hard to refuse an invite like that!). I only use it to follow other artists who inspire me and to talk with other animators and puppet fabricators. Its inspiring to see others work. I pay absolutely not attention to political posts or what people are having for dinner :)
Yeah, FB seems to be where everyone's gone. Though, Nick is still holding down the fort.
For me, time has been zipping along, faster and faster with each passing year out of school -- so I've been losing track of how often I login.
...Just wait till the next Laika film comes out, that's when everyone will be popping up.
Is there a group that everyone left to? :o
Yeah, I agree something is going on around here. There seems to be a lot of posts lately from folks clearly not related to stop-motion. Are they lost? Are they spammers?
SMIC (stop motion international community) is a good one on facebook though there are quite a few others. I wouldn't want everyone disappearing to that though as here has a lot more information, static pages, tutorials etc and its easier to find things by subject :)
This site has lots of topics to search when you need a specific answer, so it serves a different purpose to the FB chatter. I value it, so I try to contribute what I can from my knowledge. When Anthony Scott suggested winding it up or moving to another platform, lots of people said how much they value SMA. But it's like the village shop - no good saying what a valuable resource it is if you don't use it.
Plus it is the Northern Hemisphere summer, so maybe people are on holiday.
I can speak only for myself. I am checking the site at least once every 2 days to see if something new came up. I try to answer the queries i know about and try to learn from the masters information hidden in many posts around here. FB is for instant communication without memory, in my humble opinion and cannot be compared with SMA.
Hello, friends. I am here just every few days but have been super busy and haven't had specific questions lately. This site is so helpful a good portion of my questions have been answered.
I hope a lot of us are working on the stopmo Jam 2. I am. Maybe I'll post some of the puppet build on here to add the little I can at the moment.
