As the title says - I'm curious where everyone buys their supplies.
I'm finding that the deeper I try to dive into stop motion and puppet making, the required item lists become more and more specific and I'm constantly trying to find either an online or brick and mortar store where I could buy everything.
Where do you buy your plasters, silicone, latex and various other items? I've found a few, but between outrageous shipping costs or waiting a week (or more) for delivery, I'd love to find a better option.
Hopefully Ron (or some other artists in the NY area) could help me find a storefront.
I'd also appreciate if anyone else happens to know a well stocked and (relatively) inexpensive online store in the US.
Smooth-On's a great source for plasters, silicones, urethanes, etc. Not only do they have a wide selection of quality products, but their site has an extensive collection of tutorials for using the stuff. They've got a few distributors in NY, too. If they operate anything like the distributor I use, shipping is both fast and reasonably priced.
Here is the link to The Compleat Sculptor - just got an email from them yesterday with - you guessed it - silicone pigments!
The are apparently in New York City.
I just noticed on the same Complete Sculptor page that they are offering a flocking material in various colors - I wonder if these are the type Nick has used for some of his animal puppets?
I use Sculpture House (mail order) for modeling clay, armature wire, liquid latex, plaster, etc. Here is a link to their site:
Awesome. As always, many thanks to all of you for your suggestions! Now for me to get shopping!
