I had to rejoined after not lurking here for a few months. I've been a member here since almost since the original site first launched.  Could someone fill me in about the revamping of the site and if the archived threads carried over?

Hi Ken,

The old site was on a webhosting service that was using extremely outdated software and I think they had become unresponsive, so it was going way out of date and wasn't keeping up with updated web browsers etc. Anthony had to do something or sink, so he found a new place to host it.

As for archives of the old site - those are stored in somebody's hard drive for now with plans to eventually be re-posted as some kind of searchable database, but for the time being it exists entirely in limbo. Unfortunately even Archive.org doesn't have anything stored on it since way back in the early days because somehow the coding on the old site made it immune to search engines and to web trawlers (which is what Archive.org is). So even the venerable and all-knowing Wayback Machine can't dig up anything on the old site newer than maybe 2001 or so.

So we're all sort of holding our breath hoping one day it re-appears out of the ether. So much amazing information stored there that doesn't exist anywhere else.

Wow!!! I'm just glad that Anthony was able to find a new home for the site. Thanks so much Strider for taking the time to reply. It'll be interesting to see how this all pans out.

As cousin Strider said, not only 'web trawlers' but also crawlers out there! Scary as hell, the unknown entities & forces prowling in the virtual cyber world ether

Haze Effects

Woo Hoo!  I just put in my order for Vol 2 of Jim Danforth's autobiography, published by Archive Editions.  It is published on a CD rather than as a printed book, which I would have preferred, but it does manage to fit a huge amount of material in…Continue
