Well, probably more to do with Focus than Laika, but that's not important

I think it looks fantastic! I love the style. Kinda Victorian. I haven't read the book, so I'm not sure. I like the details in the puppets. A step up from the simpler designs in Coraline and ParaNorman.

Absolutely cannot wait!

Looks brilliant!

WoW! That is incredible. Such beauty. Absolutely jaw dropping puppets.

I do love a teaser trailer that is written as a self contained item, rather than film footage montage type stuff.

Looks like Laika may have stepped up their game even further!

Looks like I'm too late to see it - it's been blocked and searching youtube just turns up more blocked versions plus a painted illustration of ET in a box with a Ken Burns slow zoom out effect added. For the book maybe? Or early conceptual stuff?

Here is a more official link.

The BoxTrolls

Wow, looks gorgeous! Can't wait!

Blocked for me on Youtube too.  But you can see the trailer on the Apple iTunes movie trailers website - follow the link posted by BeyondCraft:

The boxtrolls are a fresh new idea, and it looks great.  Although, the basic setup sounds an awful lot like Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book, in which an orphan boy is raised by all the dead people in the cemetery.  That's a film I would have liked to see Laika do.  But anyway, here's a film to look forward to!

I second that Nick! Would love to see them do the Graveyard book!

I third that!

I remember there being talk of it becoming a stop-motion film at one point, but last I heard, it was going to be made into a live-action film. Dunno if that's true or not. Maybe Laika are taking a break from ghosts (featured in both Coraline and ParaNorman).

I'm still tempted to get The BOxTrolls book (known as 'Here Be Monsters') but I don't want to spoil the film  Might get the book afterwards to see all the ink illustrations (over 500 apparently).

On the Apple iTunes page it says this is 3D animation, elsewhere I've read that it's a combination of stop motion and CGI, other places say it's CGI.  Regardless, it looks really great.

Definitely looks stop-motion, but after the dirty trick by The Lego Movie last week, you can never be too careful  You can tell they're puppets when the 'Old Uncles Who Eat Rare Smelly Cheese' are talking. But if that turns out to be CGI, then, damn!, they've done a good job!

Edit: Looking at Laika's tweets from earlier, they confirm it is stopmotion:

3D animation can still mean stopmotion - ParaNorman and Frankenweenie were 3D stopmotion.

Thanks for the better links - this does look really well done!
