Hi,

I made a search on Celebrity deathmatch series. I found the older version puppets were definitely made from foam latex with lots of wrinkles. While the newer puppets looked like made of foam latex too just with shining skin. I remember there are some ways to make this kind of skin but never tried:

1. Dip the foam latex puppet into liquid rubber. (not sure if the pros-aid with color can tint the skin)

2. Cut thin later of foam and re-cast with silicon.

Anybody know about how to make the shining skin, please tell me and I will try it on my next puppets.

Thanks!

If you were using platinum silicone, it would be inhibited by the latex, so the logical method would be to cast the silicone skin first in those areas where it needed to be exposed, then cast the foam latex inside that.

Thank you Simon.

The only concern for your method is when baking the latex, is the gas can go through the latex layer or may need longer time to go. Normally I baked for 3.5 hours in the oven, and sometimes when mold is not totally dry, it will take more time.

I've had some luck with transparent carplast spray. That I use to fixate airbrush paint. It's quite easy to find in shiny/glossy and hard to find in mat. Works fine. And actually I think it can help the total degradation of the latex with a fresh layer of this over time.

Umm, yes, good point. I have not of course tried this, so am just speculating to get the discussion going.

The car spray does sound promising. And a hell of a lot easier, although it presumably would not help with the surface crinkling - unless it were perhaps thick enough.

In the UK Plasti-Kote sell a clear varnish spray which is acrylic and claimed to be flexible, but how much is the question. It comes in Matt, satin or gloss, so would be able to give you exactly the level of sheen you desire.  Will be interesting to hear how you get on.

Thank you guys!

I will try these methods if I can find the materials in Canada, and will post my progress then.

Merry Christmas and happy new year!
