Hey - so I have to make a 40-60 sec SMA for my media degree. I have average (a bit further along than a novice but not an expert) capabilities with Adobe Ps, Ai and Fl. (For what it's worth... I have access to the full Adobe Creative Suite) The brief is to use SONY VEGAS, WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER, IMOVIE, NERO [or any other suitable video editing software]. I have started using my 3yo daughter's drawings to animate my story. I have vectorised her drawings and am manipulating them in Ai to create many Ai files for my SMA. I am then exporting each Ai file as a jpeg. I have been doing short test runs using the animation tools in Ps CS6 but have been told NOT to submit using this as the resulting files are not high enough res. To get the best result, should I be using Flash or Premiere or After Effects - or a combination? Oh and my tutor who marks my work ;) has made it clear that she won't be very happy if I use Windows MM. And I don't have access to Sony Vegas, IMovie or Nero.... Anyone got any useful advice? Oh and you can look at a short 2 second test here if it helps: http://vimeo.com/67200111
Thx.

Nick, I hope your thumb wasn't damaged too badly, are you OK? Saws scare the hell out of me, our fingers, as artists, are way too important to lose, especially for a Mega-Talent like yours. Tell me that you only  (  no pun intended, I swear ), Nicked it, and it's on your less important hand. I know that spilling blood is par for the course on any animation project, but losing digits is going entirely too far.

My absolute best wishes for your complete recovery.

thanks!

Hey! The video was quite good! Congratulations!

Oldschooler -  no missing digits or parts thereof!  Left with a scar where the 2 sides of the ball of the thumb don't quite line up, and partial numbness that is probably permanent, but after 3 months it has become usable again.  And it is the less important hand, I'm a lefty.  Main effect is that I too am now paranoid about circular saw blades, which is probably a good thing!  My own stupid fault, took the guard off so I could do halving joints (where you cut through half the thickness of the wood on two pieces so they will line up when you join them together).  Can't do that with the guard on, it has a flat metal bit behind the blade to hold it on, and the cut wood passes through either side of the metal, but only if it is cut all the way through.   And then didn't put the guard back on for a week so I could cut really narrow strips of ply, where the guard wouldn't let you move the fence that close to the blade.  Of course, I used a stick to push the wood through so my hand wasn't going anywhere close.   But then I had to reach over the saw to clear a bit of wood, and my thumb  drooped down a bit more than I realised...  just goes to show how anyone, even with years of experience, can be a complete dickhead for one critical moment.

Anyway, more than enough of that particular diversion.
