I just got this email from my IT department and I also came across the same information last night while looking for a Quicktime converter so I am helping spread the word.

Quicktime is a seldom used/needed video player owned and maintained by Apple. Homeland Security has recommended that all Windows users remove the program immediately because of some security vulnerabilities in the software that have not been addressed by Apple. It could be an issue for your home personal computers.

There are many other video playing options available, so removing this program should be painless.  THIS DOES NOT AFFECT Quicktime running on an Apple computer.

If you’re a QuickTime user, or if you know one, please spread the word: No more QuickTime on Windows. And if you’re not sure how to get rid of it, just go to the Start icon, click on the Control Panel, then Programs, then Programs and Features. Select QuickTime, and then click Uninstall.

I've been seeing notices like that.  Worth passing on.

QT Pro (which could make videos as well as play them) was once a very useful app on PC as well as Mac, I used to use it a lot on my old Pentium 4.    Not worth the security risk.

Does anyone have a better option than QuickTime Pro to scrub videos frame by frame? That's the only reason I paid for QT Pro. I haven't found a video player that does that.

For windows you can use Virtualdub, it's free and is a complete video editor with frame to frame playing. Is a only one executable file application without installation.

KMPlayer is only a player that let frame to frame (keys: F frame ahead and SHIFT+F frame back)

The 3D program Blender has a video editor. I am just scratching the surface of it's possibilities but I have used to export every frame plus I used it for color correction and have attempted special effects with it. The program is 100% FREE however it is not very user friendly and I have watched hundreds of tutorials online to even get to a beginner level. The play back will also allow you to advance a film frame by frame.

Antonio, thanks I'll check them out.

Steve, I am VERY familiar with Blender but never use it's video editing features haha. I use it for modelling and 3d animation usually. Once you get used to the Blender way of doing things it makes sense and is pretty darn fast workflow wise. I prefer it over 3ds Max and Maya.

Brandon, I think you are with most of the community in missing out on the video editor I just wish I knew more about it.

I too use Blender for 3D modeling and i am a long time subscriber to CG Cookie. After seeing "Caminandes 2: Gran Dillama" I just went Blender nuts and I am trying to use it as much as I can. The other Blender films are nice but that little Llama changed my world. haha

CG Cookie is a great site. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. Especially animation or modeling wise. I'm not the greatest at UVW maps (because I hate them.)

Thanks for the offer. If I have anything come up I'll send you a message.
