I'm surprised no one has talked about this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ray-Harryhausen-Special-Effects-Blu-ray/dp/...

There are some real surprises in this even though it is mostly talking heads. I'm surprised Jim Danforth or Steven Archer weren't interviewed. There is some footage of stop motion that Peter Jackson did. I know this is not available in the US but if you have a DVD or Blu-ray player that is region free and plays PAL you can see this.

I've been waiting for this for years; I can't wait until it's available in the US.

Just ordered it. Can't wait!

Me too - thanks for letting us know about it Larry! Got the blu-ray winging my way from the land Ray calls Home.

I went for the DVD - I don't have a Blu-Ray player.

I almost went for the DVD - I seriously doubt any of the material was really mastered in HD - I mean the stuff we really want to see, the Harryhausen outtakes etc - I don't really care if the interview segments are in HD or not. In fact come to think of it that might be a little annoying seeing people yakking in HD and then animation in standard def. Huh - didn't consider that!

I ended up getting the blu-ray because I found a slightly-used one costing less than the DVD. So I guess if I want to I'll be able to count the whiskers in Leonard Maltin's beard...

I'm still trying to count the snakes on Medusa's head...

Lol well, at least whiskers aren't in the habit of writhing around while you try to count them... most of the time anyway (I guess they could if there's some wildlife taking up residence in there... but Mr Maltin seems quite well groomed and all).

Its such a good documentary. I hope the foundation release all Rays Early Experiments and Home movies to the public someday. Only a small quantity was shown in the documentary and the Early Years DVD.

$%@$#^!!!!

Well, I've found the one blu-ray in the world that my magic machine apparently can't play! Just spent a frustrating hour looking up how to update the firmware for those of us who's TV isn't connected to the internet - instructions are buried deep in the company's website and difficult to find. Finally got it updated and it still won't play it. Then I realized by downloading the official firmware update from the company I might have inadvertently made my player lock to only R1!! I had bought the player from World-Import.com, where they sell players with the region coding disabled (in other words the machines have been flashed, which is not illegal though the companies would like you to believe it is). I don't own any BDs from other regions yet aside from this one, so I popped in a DVD from the Czech Republic and it still plays fine.. as do R1 BDs.

SIGH... I wish I had just ordered the #^%@$ DVD!! Think I'll do that now and end my misery.. I also ought to google for defective copies of the blu-ray disc and see if I'm not the only one having issues with it. I originally assumed the seller had bought his disc, ripped himself a copy, and turned around to sell it used, but now I'm starting to wonder if he didn't sell because it was a dud?
