I am so devastated. R.I.P Ray.

But for all the understandable sadness, we should all remember what a fantastic life he had, he got to spend all his time doing what he loved and what he was brilliant at. And just when it seemed that his art had gone out of fashion, edged out by CGI, seemingly unloved, the last decade of his life saw a massive revival of interest in stop-motion animation and his virtual beatification by film-makers and enthusiasts. Simply wonderful that he lived to see that and be part of it. RIP Ray.

I just heard the news. :(

What an amazing life.
What a brilliant artist.

Rest in peace, Ray, and thankyou for all the excitement, awe, and inspiration.

We loved what you did Ray and peace from all you have influenced!

What an amazing life Ray had! I loved it when Ray and my dad got together a few years ago. Dad hired Ray in the early 50's to help figure out a rig to make dancing cola bottles for an ad. The world was blessed to have Ray. I miss him already.

Rest in peace Ray- a very sad day, but look how you changed the world.

Love and best wishes to all family and friends.

I saw JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS in 1969 at the age of 12.  It changed my life.  I am so sorry to hear this news.  I feel as if I have lost a family member.  My deepest condolences to Mr. Harryhausen's family and freinds.

My hero. My inspiration. The maker of my dreams.

I know that Ray Harryhausen did not invent stop motion. But he certainly advanced the art form. I hope everyone within shouting distance is able to get together and honor his memory with popcorn and movies of Harryhausen's greatest work.

A long life, lived well.  A true hero, who inspired me as both a teen and an adult. May we all be half as vital and productive in our own lives!

I'm very grateful to have had the chance to shake his hand and say "Thank You" in person.

Strength and Condolences to his family.

Today is a terribly sad day - But, the outpouring of admiration for Ray Harryhausen we've all been seeing today, has shown me this is also a day for celebration of Uncle Ray's work, personality and legacy.

He will be remembered and honoured by each and every one of us, in our work and in our love of films.

I was just carefully packing my signed souveniers for a short local move this weekend... then took a break and saw the news on Facebook. I'm sure none of us would be around here if it weren't for him. My surface gage suddenly means a whole lot more to me now.

Rest in peace, great Uncle Ray.
