Here's about the best interview I've ever seen with Stop Motion Master Phil Tippett. Oozing with stopmo history. Includes clips from early projects as a kid, Star Wars, Jurassic Park and all the way up to his KickStarter project, Mad God. Mostly focuses on his stop motion career, not so much the CG stuff.
Why does Phil Tippett need a kick starter. An established artist like him should be approaching studios.
that's not quite relevant to the industry. there are plenty of grants that he would also have an advantage in. I am currently running a crowd funding campaign and it annoying to see someone like him tapping a market that is meant for new artists

My guess is that it's because Mad God is experimental filmmaking as opposed to commercial.
What a wonderful interview!
Here's another recent Phil Tippett interview, where he talks about the new Star Wars film (warning: tiny spoilers if you've not yet seen "The Force Awakens") and animating a sequence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sexd06I8mzg
