so i have got this new project starting today because a client loved how we did the last animation as a school project (this one: http://www.stopmotionanimation.com/video/dogger-and-catter-spaghett... ).

because i have learned a lot in between projects, this one is going to be way more professional than the last one. last time i used iron wires, and the puppets were way too small to be animated properly...

BUT my question, or subject of discussion: How can i make non-digital mouths look good, if it's possible in the first place. i was thinking of electric wire, or 1mm aluminum wire but i have none lying around atm. and then put some wool around is just like we did for the puppet and keep stabbin' it with a "viltnaald" (im dutch, no idea what vilting is in english, you just stab wool with this needle that has little hooks which pull the wool into wool, creating a hairy, and with some trimming/shaving, plain, tight and neat, pelt). this stripe of mouth will only be attached to the face using a little pin like on pushpin, so it can easily be replaced with another during animating.

PLS LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! any other suggestions, thoughts, ideas, they are always more than welcome!

Well, I don't pretend to be an expert about anything stopmotion, having only made lego stopmotion back when I was eight. Nor am I an expert on wool. But if what I'm hearing is correct, and you want a bunch of changeable mouths, I think the best way to go is with felt.

It's flat, can be cut with scissors, comes in a bunch of different colors, cheap, and is wool. I think.

Totally forgot about those square pieces!! I only have unrefined wool for the puppets here, but got a pack of those squares at home... i'll give it a go thanks!

The English for the process you describe is "felting".
