Hey stop motion friends,

I just made a station identification spot (a bumper) for the SYFY channel and it is running on TV now. You may recognize this little guy from the first StopMo Jam a couple years back!

Nice character!

So I guess you would have had the same problem of animating a head inside a clear helmet as Mars Attacks.  Did you remove and replace the helmet, as they did before giving up and going cgi?  Or is it possibly only the front half of a helmet, so you could get in from behind?  Or maybe you just avoid  having to do things like eye movements?  But it has such a soulful expression I can't imagine you wouldn't move the eyes.

Hi Nick!

Thank you! Glad you like the character. Fortunately I did not have any problems animating the head. The helmet splits in two. The back half is permanently attached to the collar, so only the front pulls off, and is keyed to fit back into the same position every time. From the front, I could easily swap replacement faces as needed. And yes, the eyes move. Maybe Tim Burton should have asked me to animate the aliens in Mars Attacks! Ha!
