Wow - fantastic to see it posted online!!
I've watched it many times, and asked Leevi questions about it, and I still can't say I understand it - but with a film like this that's actually a good thing. It's not a simple confection to be taken in one bite and fully digested, it's a work of surrealism that leaves you thinking and wondering for a long time after seeing it, and finding new things in it each time you watch. It doesn't yield up its secrets easily (or even after much work I suspect) - but it's utterly fascinating. In its mysterious rhythms it whispers of profound truths but leaves you grasping at them with no simple answers - so it makes you ponder.
I should say something about the work process. I got a two year animation artist residency at NIAF in the Netherlands. The first year I worked on the script, puppet design, puppet and prop building. The second year I animated. When the residency ended I just about finished the shooting. It then took me a year part time to edit, composite and work on the digital animation.
The work began in January 2008 and the premiere was at Tampere film festival in March 2011. Since then (EGO) has been screened at about 40 festival.
Loved the presentation -- and how each part of the character's psyche is detached from one another. I enjoyed watching this :)
That was beautiful man well done! No idea whats going on but like Strider says thats what makes it so interesting. Thumbs up!!!
Great, man! I still have it on DVD.
Don, the upload is HD. It makes a huge difference in the film, as the rooms in the middle are so small.
Oh, darn. Even bigger reason to shoot in HD ;) I'll have to check it out.
Very well done and entertaining work!!
Fantastic job and a beautifully strange animation, just what I like. Have to watch it again!
Really great film - lovely animation - well done!
