HELLO ALL!!!

Ive always loved watching animation so I decided to have a go at some.

I bought some software called CLAY ANIMATION STUDIO about 4 months ago and started messing around with it.

After some time doing tests, some which can be found on my youtube channel, PLanimation2, I ploughed ahead in creating a story I wrote 30 years ago in primary school. Its called FROGS.

I have learned so much doing this. My budget of £100 shows and Ive ALOT to learn but its a start.

Hope you like it.

WOW!  Such a complex project, and, considering your budget and that it is your first film, an excellent result.  I especially liked the sets, it is obvious you put some serious consideration and time building them.  Flash-backs, swamp creatures, weird denizens of the swamp, it has them all!  Just WOW!  Can't wait to see your next short.  Oh, and at nine minutes, that was a lot of animating!

This is a prime example of why SMA is so exciting: connecting with other filmmakers and seeing what they are doing, getting inspired, seeing what happens when others follow their dreams.  Nothing better on the internet, that is for sure.

I enjoyed that - great swamp atmosphere and ambitious storytelling.  A very good start indeed - can't wait to see more!

There are a few pops where the camera or light moved, and  couple of edits that jumped a bit, but the actual animation of the people is pretty good and the story was clearly told and held my interest, which is more important than a couple of minor technical issues.  I would have liked to see some more articulated frog puppets with legs that could be animated, maybe just for close-ups, but using the less flexible frogs didn't get in the way of telling the story.  And it's not like you didn't have enough to do already - you tackled different types of sets (interior, swampy landscape, house exterior),  props, vehicles, puppets, clothing, moody night lighting, and some well composed shots that showed everything that was needed but no more.  And script, voice recording, music, sound effects...  and 9 minutes is quite a long film to start on.  You've covered all aspects of animated film making in this one, so you are well prepared to do even better on the next one.

Thank you nick for your appreciated comments. You were right about some of the set movements. I left one in deliberately to remind me that everything that you don't want to move needs to be fastened down. Your excellent YouTube video on puppet bodies was a godsend as was your advice on spray latex vs moulding. I made the heads using moulds. Lip syncing was a little outside of my level. I made the big frog with an inflatable bladder  for the throat but again, the moulding latex was too stiff. It really was a teeth cutting exercise. I've never done video editing, set building or animating before so I didn't aim too high. Your fluid animation amazes me every time I see it. That is my goal eventually. You did inspire me and no doubt will again.

Thanks.

Now I've got to do better.

Thanks everyone for all your kind comments.

Thank you for your kind comments. Once id got started, it just developed. was supposed to be a 5 minute short but just kept going. Just need to remember what I've learned and aim for smoother animation. Your right. This site is cool. Gives animators a place to meet up and learn from each other. I see what others have achieved and think....come on peter, its possible!
