Huh huh huh - you said "doing dinosaurs!"

Good luck with that because the book was only sold in the ad section of magazines like Starlog and CineMagic back around the late 70s and early 80s. I was about to order a copy but found out some people had ordered but not received theirs so I waited to see if it got resolved and after awhile the ad for it disappeared. I think some people did get them but I was told the book suggested using cold-cure foam latex and that it dried to the consistency of a pencil eraser and wasn’t so great for animation.

Hi Mike , wow Ive been away for a while from here.

Well god new , due to posting my request here , I was surprisingly contacted by a very kind lady who had a copy in perfect condition. Her Husband had passed and he had a copy in his collection. The only STM book in his collection. She had done a search to sell and came up with my posting here. A email and a phone call, and it was mine.

It was some thing that i purchased through starlog back in the 70s, i lived in a tiny town in west TX , the only person with such interest and for me it was great little book  . it was lost over the years , and once i started looking for it , it was very rare and most people had never seen it and i remember reading about the issues with the book but did not care and received mine. I spent months and months looking for it on ebay , contacting used book stores and even tried to look for the original publishers. I dropped in here , posted and after a year , was contacted. so i say never give up.....

Wow! Glad it worked out for you. That’s a great story.

Interesting story - the power of the internet!

I used cold cure foam latex briefly in the 80s, for full-size prosthetics, and yes, it was pretty much hopeless. Too rigid and inflexible, a bit like reticulated foam but harder. We went back to baking the foam or using gelatine for prosthetic pieces.

The newer polyurethane foams are much more useable, softer and more predictable.
