Hi

I’m wondering what type of lighting is best for a set. I’m using claymation to illustrate children’s picture books but I’m finding that my lighting isn’t right.

Can you be more specific with your problem? What do you want to achieve?

I’m looking for advice on lighting. My character seems washed out and blurry. What types of lamps or lights are used. What types of wattage?

Looks like you just need to adjust the aperture of your camera. Too much light going into the camera, the light areas are getting blown out.

Several things you can do:

Adjust the lighting. Move the lights further away, soften them with tracing paper.

Adjust the camera. Increase your shutter speed or decrease the aperture (from e.g. f5.6 to f8)

Adjust the puppet. Might be a very shiny face that is causing the burnt out highlights. Add some dulling powder or spray/paint with matt varnish.
