First of all, it's been awhile and I'm glad to see that everyone is doing well! I've taken quite the break from my animation and I decided that I should wipe the dust off my desk and get going again. Here's my issue:

I really struggle with motivation.

I want to make a feature length film, but I know that if I'm lucky I might get a minute of animation done, if I even finish pre-production. Then, I remembered Phil Tippett's Mad God structure. For those of you that aren't familiar, I'll summarize it: There's a main character, and that's about it. Phil comes up with scenes as he goes, and the story just sort of assembles itself. You don't know anything about the main character except that he's following a map. Because of this, he can do whatever he wants whenever he wants.

Now I would love to have a system like this, so I sat for a solid 30 minutes and tried to come up with enough setting, characters, plot, etc. However, I realized that I was sub-consciously just making a knockoff of Mad God. I obviously want to avoid that and make something original.

Any suggestions of characters, plot, setting, etc?

What you need is this wonderful book: Ideas for the animated short , by Sullivan, Alexander, Mintz and Besen. It is inspirational.

Bobby Yeah by Robert Morgan was also made in a sequential way. I think it is available on YouTube. Quite a challenging watch, but it works well.

Well, as one of the comments reads, “How about Bobby No”. Jokes aside, I might muster my strength and watch it sometime, and I’ll definitely check out the book too.

Welcome back,

and I hear you Croc.. I'm in a similar situation myself..   I let you know if I can think of any suggestions that may be helpful.. I'm trying to figure things out myself..

I did! I don't have much done, but I actually was about to go work on a model for the film. When I finish it, I'll definitely share.

all sounds good Count... it's not what you do it's what you get done that counts.. ;)

Glad your sticking it out... it's hard at times.. I'm in full throttle now.. on top for once.. loving it.. buzzing... found my calling.. I hope you feel the same way about your animation... to find your peace with it.. I wish you well...
