I've been in this business for more nearly more years than I can count and yet, I've never had a demo reel. That's because I got pegged very early in my career as being a "fabricator" (maker of special props and puppets) but never an animator.
Over the past 5 years or so, I've totally focused on dedicating myself to the goal of being a professional animator and have amassed quite a bit of animation but, most of the projects I've been working on have remained unreleased and so I cannot legally show what I've been doing publicly.
Long story short, that waiting time is finally at an end and better than that - a new beginning. I say that because I've put together a demo reel I can show publicly while knowing that within the coming year, there will be more and more of my stuff that will become available for me to show... so this reel is just the beginning and it will be evolving and expanding.
IMPORTANT!: Not all of the animation on my demo reel is mine, on many jobs I was the puppet and/or prop maker so, I listed credits at the bottom of the screen (when you watch in HD) to let the viewer know what I'm responsible for.
(drum roll please) Here it is...
I like this tighter, more specialised reel better, even though there are some great things missing (esp ITFOG). Possibly the other one is trying to cover too much territory? This one is focussed on dynamation type effects and I think it makes more of an impact. Now maybe you could do another reel that only covers your puppet film work, because you are strong in both areas.
Looks badass Ron! The shorter one feels much better, and it leaves you wanting more...which is exactly what a great reel needs to do. Congrats!
Send it to Starburns Industries, did you see they are doing the new Neil Gaimman movie "Lenore"? http://www.prweb.com/releases/2013/7/prweb10935816.htm
Thanks for the motivation and awesome work!
Seigfrid - Direct and to the point... I like that.
That means an awful lot to me coming from YOU Anthony. Thanks!
Great Tip Deiter! I will definitely follow up on that. Thanks!
The condensed version of the reel is definitely very exciting! Great work!
