Hey all! About a year ago I started posting pictures up here of a new stop motion short I had started working on. Although it has taken me way longer that I had anticipated I am almost complete with the compositing and finishing touches. I recently created a website with the trailer and stills. I would love for you to give it a peek and let me know your thoughts! gnosisthefilm.com. Thanks everyone for all the advice I was given here on set design, lighting, and all the other stop mo magic! I am excited to see where this leads to!

Looks cool! I like the images, nice atmosphere. More please

Great design and lights!! When do you plan to release?

(It always takes longer than anticipated.)

Wow! Really nice! I love that piano!!! The little monsters on the mobile were nifty, too. Can't wait to see it.

thanks for the kind words!

Wow!  I enjoyed it.  Great art direction.

This is just beautiful.  So many great shots!   I looked at the stills of the piano on the website.  How did you construct it to make the keys press down like a real piano?  The Satie composition works really well with the story.

Congratulations!

Maureen

I'm not sure how often Tamara might check in here - but fortunately there's an old thread where this very subject was discussed, and where she worked out the process:

Gnosis Short

Oh oops- just read the thread - there are lots of suggestions and the beginnings of her approach to it, but it ends before she reveals the final solution she used. If you click on her name you can view all discussions (threads) she's taken part in - if you're willing to go through them you might run across the info in one of them.

Hi Maureen, thanks for the kind words! Thanks Strider for trying to help out :) the piano was a lot of trial and error and I honestly had to hold my breath while animating. I drilled tiny holes in the back of all the keys and connected them with a wire. Then I had them resting on a dowel. Problem was when I pushed down one key the surrounding ones also went down. I wound up locking down all the keys not being played and manipulated the keys from the back. I'm sure there is a better way to go about it and wish I had had a more secure way though!
