As mentioned in the Puppet Making section, my first stop motion puppet will be an giant ape. The details of how I will accomplish this are in that post I made. I have just been brainstorming the idea and may include it as a portfolio piece for my coursed in stop motion animation when I leave high school next year. I am a HUGE Harryhausen fan, as you can tell by my avatar and it was an absolute joy to meet him and some of his many models. I am not sure if any other creatures will make an appearance in this film, but I will have some shots with live action and stop motion combined. I have a greenscreen and CompositeLab Pro. However I want to find a better program for chroma keying out the background. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Angus

OK, I have been brainstorming some story ideas.

1933 - Kong's dead body shipped back to Skull Island via boat. Lightning revives him on way there and he destroys the boat. He then makes his way back to Skull Island.

1942 - WW2 Pilot crash lands on Skull Island. Encounters dinosaurs and Kong. Calls in military and a huge battle between soldiers, Kong and dinosaurs ensues. Movie ends with the island blowing up and sinking. However Kong is seen to escape..............

Wax 2.0 is the best free chroma key software I have found.

I also like Claymation Studio 3.0 by Honestech. It's moderately priced with user friendly chroma key, but probably no better than Composite Lab Pro. Download a free trial and check it out to compare.

Pretty cool story. I like the WW2 connection. Here is a slight variation:

Kong survives fall. He is rushed to the National Zoo in DC where he is saved by a team of vets. Kong in coma. Decision is made to send him back to skull island. He is put on a ship but wakes up within sight of his island. Destroys ship. Fights giant shark or other sea creature during swim to island. I know apes don't swim, but they aren't 50 feet tall either. Finally reaches island and collapses on beach.

1942-Japanese invade Skull Island and enslave the natives. Kong and the natives are now friends so Kong comes to their rescue and fights off the Japanese. Americans land and hail Kong as a war hero. He is taken to DC where the President awards Kong the Dickens medal after ticker tape parade.

Yeah I could make a miniature White House and Kong could climb it and all the kids could throw paper planes at him after he gets his medal! Peter Jackson should have thought of that.

I think you are on to something, what a great scene! Kong wouldn't quite know what to make of it at first, but he would get the idea and smile just as the scene closes with a iris shot, lol.

I wish you good luck with it.

You are a Harryhausen fan. So am I.

I used to have a Kong avatar in old forum before I moved here.

I thought the animation was very good! Good stance with the puppet. Once Kong has his teeth, he is going to look much fiercer. Bela Lugosi never wore fangs in his Dracula moives, so toothless might be ok too. Keep it up, you definitely have a knack for this.

Teeth are a problem just now. The mouth cannot move either. In terms of storyline I have been thinking of introducing the Frankenstein creature in an attempt to revive the unrealized project of KK vs Frankenstein. This project was abandoned in the 60's and ended up turning into KK vs Godzilla.

Blender, like I mentioned on another post has got chroma keying. Here are some tutorial videos and such about it. I can find you more help if you decide to go that route. I am an experience Blender user, but not in the compositing side. I mainly do character modeling and animation.

Don't worry about the mouth moving, most of my models don't have moving jaws.  Find some scrap wood and cut out small rectangles or squares for teeth. I use toothpicks, cut to length, for fangs. These wooden teeth can be glued into Kongs mouth with rubber cement. I like the Frankenstein Vs. Kong storyline. It's a shame O'Brians version was never filmed.
