Unfortnatelly it was not nominated... But it should have been there on the list!

daylight robbery- easily the best stop motion performance i've ever seen...

"Fred", in my opinion, is the new high bar for character based work.

Oscar was the first thing I thought the first time I saw it. Disappointing, but not surprising, give it to someone less deserving instead. Maybe it will go to a super-talented supercomputer/ human hybrid abomination. And then maybe they will give 'gravity' the Oscar for best 'cinematography' instead of 'best visual effects'.

Fred is simply an amazing piece of art in every respect, but above all, to me, sums up the lives of all exploited and unappreciated artists, and the love/hate reasons for creating in the first and last place. No choice but to make sure that " the show must go on..."

I absolutely adore it, and thanks to Misha for creating it with so much love and understanding. I feel like he made it for himself and for all of us, and I think it takes artists to truly appreciate it. He is " the animator's animator ".

It's just too far over the heads of typical audiences. If one has never suffered for the sake of art, it's just impossible to grasp, to put into any context that is comprehensible.

Their loss. Not Misha's or ours...

Thanks for agreeing Oldschooler, and i likewise agree with all you said too- I teach stop motion in London, and when Fred first became known to me, earlier this year, we basically kept watching it in every lesson, and absorbing more and more of Misha's work, always spotting new levels of complexity to the world and performance, not to mention the camera, design and lighting...

Till then, for me Suzie Templeton had been my biggest contemporary influence- Fred also taught me that it was possible to put complex, fast sequences of thoughts and emotions into a characters head, and still have them read- IF (and a big if) you have the talent to do it. I have never seen a character think as fast and as clearly as Fred does, and expect to wait a while before I see it again-

and, yes, the fact that the plot parallels the lives of all true driven artists in so many ways, makes it a poem, if not a love letter, to animators and artists generally....

Viva "Fred"

Wow. That "Fred" animation by Misha is unbelievable! I agree with you all.

This is made by far well enough to deserve appropriate recognition, is an amazing example of stop motion film making and animating and if not from the herd then at least from the artists and animators Misha and Fred have a place in our hearts.

Amazing work, and I also agree that 'Fred should at least have gotten nominated. That little film has been inspiring me since at least 2007. Misha's always been so humble about it. At the premiere in Portland, the sound stopped working and people in the audience started making the soundeffects with their mouths. Funny film, great animation, and every time I think about performance in stop motion, I always go back to the first scene before there is any dialog. The character lives and breathes, balances, and counter-balances himself. There is more here than just moving a puppet around on a set. This is pure acting.
