Hey guys

I need a wire fence for my set, like this:

scale of 1:6 –about 1/2 inch sized holes.

I can't find it anywhere.

I found only this:

http://www.amazon.com/Amaco-WireForm-Metal-aluminum-gallery/dp/B004...

But the parts here are soldered and not woven.

Anyone has an idea?

Thanks a lot

The closest look I could find was some wire mesh wastebaskets, the scale was right for 1:6 and they are a diamond pattern, not square. But the actual construction is different. On camera it would look ok. The wire is less chunky than the mcnichols square mesh you linked to. The baskets are usually painted black, and are mostly found in discount type stores here for 2 or 3 dollars each. Possibly even better if you used needlenose pliers to give a slight twist to every soldered joint to mimic the look of that fence. The only way to duplicate the cyclone fence perfectly is to make it from thin steel wire, zigzagging each wire by bending it on a vertical row of nails so you get that twist at each bend, then fitting the wires together. It could be worth it if you need to focus closely on the fence, or if the hero cuts it with bolt cutters so you really notice it. But in the background you could probably get away with an impression, as long as the scale is right the soldered construction could be good enough.

Thanks guys,

I did try to make it myself with nails, but it didn't came out straight, it was very hard to control the wires when I was fitting them together.

Would aviary mesh do it? You would have to turn it 45 degrees, and it is welded, not linked, but comes in 1/2" size.

Otherwise  persevere with making it. The nail positions would need to be precise, maybe drill them first, and something like copper wire would wrap round ok.

You could probably use a flexible plastic mesh. What is it they sell in that stuff at grocery stores? Fruit? I'm not sure, but you know what I mean, right? Some gray or silver paint might fix it right up. Or maybe just some cloth netting. Maybe it's time to order some fishnet pantyhose?

Or wait - gardening supply stores sell various kinds of mesh and netting to protect gardens from animals. That might be just the ticket.

In case of making it, you can try with aluminium wire, it's very soft and friendly to handle and doesn't come back from the position you give it.

I've used the aluminum wire and nails-in-a-board technique before. It is quite time consuming, but can yield good results with practice.

It depends on how close you want to get to it, too. The diamond wire mesh you linked to does look pretty close. Just pulling on the edges with stretch the mesh out and make the diamond shapes more square.
