So, I'm building my first serious armature.
Ball and socket.
I really want this to look right when it's done. (don't we all?)
Anyway, at first, I thought I would do the entire puppet from a silicone cast over the armature. The character will be about 9 inches tall, kinda cartoon like appearance. But I'm fearful of doing the entire body in silicone, because I want to be able to paint it and make it look good...pants, shirts, skin, all that. But then, reading on the web, you see where it's hard to paint silicone.
So then I thought of doing clothing...to cover most of it, leaving the hands and shoes as silicone, maybe the head using Fast Cast resin. There are so many articles and discussions and videos on the web, I'm getting overwhelmed. So, would you do clothing or all silicone? I don't have a sewing machine for clothing. Any suggestions? tips? anything?
thanks in advance!

Silicone is quite heavy so using it just for exposed flesh is quite a good idea.
There are some other threads on this site with lots of tips for painting silicone. It's not so much that it is tricky, more that you have to mix it up yourself. Not like getting it out of a pot! You can of course pre-colour the silicone first layer you put into the mould to give a base for clothing shades.
