Hello - does anyone know what the name is of an animation short (looks like claymation) that has two male characters in a confined dingy room where they are typing away, one at a time, taking turns each to wind each other up. Their life depends on being wound up by the other one. They each finish typing just before they wind down and just have enough potential wind energy to wind the other one fully up before stopping, and so on.
It is a great animation with an excellent ending and theme. I don't know what they were typing.
If anybody has seen this animation short, then please contact me.
Regards.

Man, that doesn't sound familiar at all, sorry.

hmmm, sounds kinda familiar, but I don't know.

Sound interesting. It doesn't ring any bells for me but if you find out, I'd like to watch it.

When and where did you see it? Online, at a festival, on TV? How long ago?
Thanks very much everyone. It's too bad that I couldn't track it down. If I could afford it I'd commision a reproduction of it, but the stop-motion artist/creator was truly gifted and second to none. It was old school stuff and had a rare feel to it, as if it could not be captured again. It had a certain squalor to it that is very hard to reproduce.
It was somewhat minimalistic, but not simplistic.
It was a quality production really and the maker was a master.

I didn't reveal all the plot details, especially the ending; just the gist of it. It was a potentially award winning storyline and the animation was the most ideal vehicle for it.

I'll have to write it up in its entirety one day.

Regards, Jarl.
*Karl! :-)

Oh, man, I've seen this film. I'm going to go nuts until I find it.

I'll could ask around a bit more :-)

I have also seen this film. It's probably not clay animation, but definitely stop motion. The style seems to be something the Brothers Quay, Bolex Brothers, or Jan Svankmajer might do. I would start there. Meanwhile, I will search around a bit.

It's not the Quays or Svankmajer, though searching for them might turn up films that look or feel like their work. Hm… who was that one guy, English I think, who did creepy films in that kind of vein? Wish I could remember. He did one with siamese twins who get separated in a hospital room and there's lots of death and murder and blood… what was that guy's name? It could be one of his.

He also did one where a guy keeps looking through a peephole in his wall into a woman's room next door, and she puts on shows for him. I think he's a teacher. Anybody know who I'm talking about?

Ok, his name is Robert Morgan, he did The Cat With Hands as well as The Separation (siamese twins movie) and a few others. Not sure if it's the guy you're looking for, but it could be. Here's a page about his films.

Strider- Oh, WOW!!! Thanks for the lead- that very well might be the guy. I could swear I just saw it recently, too. Drives me crazy when I can't find something that's on the tip of my tongue. No hits for "Clockwork". Plot is a bit too vague for Google too, it seems. I DID, however, find a few people looking for it, including the original poster of this thread. Talk about a self-recursive search. "You are here..."

*EDIT: It does not appear to be Robert Morgan. He was born in 1974, and the animation was said to be "old school". I'm guessing it came out in the late 70's or early 80's because that's when a lot of experimental stop motion work was done, especially shorts that traveled the film festival circuit.

Yeah, after looking at his films I realized it doubtless wasn't him. Lol, and I also ran across the same question elsewhere by what I assume must be the same person. I haven't come up with any more leads, but this did spur me to once again search for a couple of lost childhood movies, and this time I found them both in a couple of minutes! Years ago I left a trail of questions on old movie message boards and got nothing.
