Hi All

I'm trying to connect a Canon EOS 250D to Stop Motion Pro Eclipse.

I'm connecting via the USB port.

My computer detects the camera. Stop Motion Pro will not connect. Am I missing something obvious? Is there a setting on the cam itself I should be setting?

It works perfectly with my old EOS 1000D

Thanks in advance for any help.

It's likely that the 250D is too new of a camera for Stop Motion Pro to support. I had the same issue with a Canon 1300D on Dragonframe 3, before I upgraded to DF4 with no issues. SMP Eclipse as far as I know hasn't been extensively updated all that recently apart from Win10 support, and with the 250D having only just recently been released it's likely not supported at the moment. The 1000D is no issue since it's a 10 year old model now.

It's been a while since I used SMP, so I can't remember if it's a feature or not, but if it has the ability to folder watch you may be able to trigger the camera using the Canon utility and have it save frames to a file on your computer for SMP to add to a sequence so that you can at least scrub through the animation as you're filming. The only downside to that method is then not having the option to using the onion skin features.

Thanks for the reply. I've dropped a line to SMP to query the compatability. It'll be very disapointing if that does tuern out to be the case. I hope I can return th ecam and change to a different model, the 800D perhaps.

Regards

P.

I hadn't scrolled down far enough to see Ethan had already replied to this, and you replied too.  But whatever, here's what I found.

The 250d is not yet listed as a compatible camera at the Eclipse site:  http://www.stopmotionpro.com/index.php/canon-dslr-getting-started

This is a roundabout approach, but I checked Dragonframe - whether a camera is supported or not mainly depends on what firmware the camera maker has built in, which frame grabbers can use.  I found the 250d is supported by the latest DF 4.1, but not the previous DF 3.7.3 version ( I use 3.6), which suggests the frame grabber software needs to be updated to work with it.  The 250d seems to have been announced in April 2019 (according to DP Review), so it can't have been in shops for long.  Its most likely Eclipse has not caught up.

Hi

Yes as both suggestions above the 250D is not yet supported by SMP, I had a very nice sympathetic email response to my query. I've fortunately been able to change the cam for an 80D, it arrives Tuesday.

Thanks for your responses, much appreciated.
