At the Animation Workshop, we've got a couple Windows machines with DV video camera inputs running an older version of Dragonframe. Setting that up required using FFDSHOW to interpret the signal.
(Yes, I know it's not the best way to shoot, but it's good for teaching beginners. No messing around with DSLR settings for half an hour every time you want to shoot.)
Now we're considering upgrading to Dragonframe 4. I went to the website to check the support info on DV (Firewire) sourced cameras, and there's no mention of it anymore. The Dragon message boards are gone too.
So.... I suspect it's not supported? Anyone know for sure?
Any DV camera that works in DF3 should work in DF4. There are honestly so few DV cameras these days, and fewer computers with firewire, that we don't advertise the functionality.
Of course, you can always use the free trial of DF4 to verify that your camera works.
The dragon site used to have info on how to use ffdshow to make a DV input source play nice. I may have taken some notes, but I'm sorry to see that info go.
You only need ffdshow for HDV, not DV, and that's described in the manual.
Aha! Thanks. That's actually what we have, HDV.
I forgot about the manual! I'll check there.
