I will be applying for University next year, so was wondering if anyone knows of or has been to any Uni's in the Uk to study animation. I have picked up some prospectuses (prospecti?) but feel I may have missed some good ones, and it would be good to know how good they are from animator's points of views.

Cheers,

Marnik

Its possibly a good idea to look into going to on an accredited uni course the skillset website is a good starting place http://www.creativeskillset.org/animation/accreditation/

I don't know what part of the UK you are in, but I know Edinburgh College of Art has a very strong traditional animation programme. They seem to have a very good support system for their students in terms of encouraging them to participate in contests and get job placements and some of their graduates have gone on to win BAFTA awards. Edinburgh is a lovely place to live as well, and there are several good stop motion studios in the vicinity where you could get work experience. I think ECA is definitely worth looking into.

Glamorgan and Stoke university's are very good for stop motion. You should check those out. I know Bournemouth uni is supposed to be pretty amazing for animation in general.

I did my degree at the University of the West of England (about to finish my MA) being set in bristol they have great ties with Aardman and many of the independent Animation studios in Bristol many of which have been set up by previous graduates.

Hi Jessica! Since starting this thread I have applied and got in to UWE also (I have deferred and am currently on my gap year, so will be there September 2015). So so so excited. Ultimately I would love to end up having a job at Aardman.

Good luck with your studies when you start next September, the tutors are really friendly and supportive and the technical staff are incredibly helpful, resources wise if stop motion is your thing then you'll have everything you need, lighting, a station with your own computer in with stop motion pro on or in most cases both stop motion pro and Dragon frame, a digital SLR. The technical staff run workshops in casting, model making including ones that focus on heads, hands, tie downs, skinning etc. So there really is everything there for you to tap in to to get off to a great start with stop motion. So just make the most of it and have fun with your learning.

I've just applied to go to Edinburgh College of Art to study animation. It covers all different animation mediums, but I have known people that have been very successful after graduating.
