Hi everyone !

I've build a little something to help me create my wire armatures and most importantly to do the same armature again and again.

Pins are placed in a piece of wood in a way that all I need to do is twist the wire around them to get the shape of my character. The technic can be used for various sizes and shapes and also for hands or any part you need to replace a lot.

Here's a little video, I hope it'll be helpfull for someone.

dude, you rokes!

rly cool device

Thank you Serge !

Here is the dots layout for a 15cm final armature (each square is 1cm)

I just finished a patern for a hand (~12cm tall) :

I think I'll make another video, or at least I'll show you pictures soon.

Here's a similar video, which may have some useful tips:

The "sandwich" arrangement appears to help keep the armature flat.
They don't twist the multiple strands of aluminium armature wire, just wrap some small wires around at a few places to stop the main strands coming apart. From the few tests I've done, this can improve the range of motion and longevity compared with (excessively) tight twisting.

Cheers,
Damien

Thank you for sharing this video Damien! Funny to see how old the technic is. And from now on I'll try not to twist too tight.

Beautiful work! Looks like a useful method to get fast and consistent results.

I like how you've made the pegs removable. If you need to customise armatures (eg: make them taller/shorter), it's as simple as drilling extra holes and moving a few pegs.

Thankyou for teaching me a new armature-making technique.
Cheers,
Damien

I'm glad it's useful!

I'll add pictures to this discussion if I build new patterns, feel free to do the same.

watched on youtube, great little armature video :)

Thanks Ian!
