Hello! I'm looking for Nikon lenses for my canon rebel T5, and I researched a lot in the forums.  But because my first language isn't English, all the technical info is a lot to take in!  I've found these two, and I want to be sure I'm not completly lost!  (28mm and 55mm)

Any advide is appreciated!

The first one looks great to me.

I'm a little confused about the P in the second listing - I checked the Ken Rockwell site which is my go-to site for info on lenses, and here's what it says about Nikkor P lenses:

P lenses are manual focus AI-s lenses that have had the electronic contacts of an AF lens added to them.

There are only a few of these: the 500mm f/4 P from 1988, the 1200 - 1700 mm f/5.6-8.0 P ED and the new 45mm f/2.8 P.

Wait, what? They've been turned into automatic lenses??!! But I didn't see any contacts on the back of the lens in the pictures, and also a 55mm micro is not listed as one of them - so I read on a bit and found this:

Nikon also, until about 1970, used letters on the front of a lens to delineate how many elements it had. The "P" stood for the Greek Penta, or five, elements. "Q" was quad (four) and etc.

Ah, so that must be what it is! Looking at the picture showing the front of the lens, I see it does not say AI-P, but rather Micro-Nikkor-P. And then it says Auto... wait, what??~!!

That puts us right back where we started - is it auto or isn't it? There are no contacts on the back of the lens, I don't see how it can be. My gut instinct says it almost has to work for stopmotion with an adapter - I don't see how it could not, It has the all-important manual focus ring, and no electronic contacts. And even if it did have contacts, those would be disabled as soon as you put it on an adapter to fit it onto the Canon. If I were looking to buy this lens, I would go ahead and do it.

Maybe somebody else can offer some more info?

Oh, in case you want to check it out yourself - you might find more relevant info somewhere on the page - here's the page on Ken Rockwell's site I was looking at:

The 28mm is good.  Looks similar to mine, but in better condition.

I didn't know what the P means on the 55mm lens, either.  But it's an AI lens, and has focus and aperture rings, so it looks like it should be ok to use for animation.

This one looks like mine:   http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-Micro-NIKKOR-55mm-f-3-5-Ai-Lens/28213...

I see there is another one of the P lenses here (in the USA) for US $44 but looking a bit more worn.    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-Nikkor-AI-55mm-f3-5-Micro-P-Lens-55-3...

Thank you so much!  I'll take a look at everything!

I have that 55mm lens, with the P and everything it's sharp as a tack, I made a video recommending lenses for stop motion and that lens is my first recommendation, you can jump to 5:07 to hear me talk about it, and see an example of it's image quality.
