A video-based interface for hand-driven stop motion animation

Hopefully this isn't a repost of old news;

Found this on Youtube, its an interesting theory and implementation of software, though I'm not completely sold on it, especially for real character performance animation, clay-mation or squash-stretch. But I'd definitely see some potential usefulness especially for hard-prop type anim, and I'd love to try it out if given the opportunity.

I'm curious to hear what other people think.

I think you could just fit a handle to the object so you could keep your hand behind it. Then you would not have to move it twice so you can remove your fingers. Or use the software. Just shoot each frame once, and use normal rig removal techniques to remove your hand and arm from the background, if you don't want to build a rig.
I don't do many rigid objects that need flying rigs, mostly articulated puppets that absolutely do require traditional stop motion. I do sometimes animate a car rolling along the road, but that doesn't need a rig. So I wouldn't have much use for this. I can imagine a rare project where it could come in handy, but it seems to create almost as much work as it eliminates.
