I recently got an opportunity to do VFX work on a music video for a local filmmaker (in my area), for the band Superdivorce.
He wanted to do an 80's style video -- complete with animated lightning and a stop-motion monster. We're still doing post work on it, but the finished video will most-likely premiere online sometime this fall.
Here's a few pics of the monster puppet. He's foam latex, with a wire and epoxy armature. I cast him in a three part mold, with an additional mold for the little mantis arms. Credits on this one are as follows: The sculpt was done by my father. I made the mold, ran the foam, trimmed and patched. And we both painted (though, my part in painting was maybe 20%).
That's a beautiful looking puppet! Look forward to seeing it in action!
Today is the official release for the video!
You can watch below (the monster stuff doesn't happen till min. mark 1:34, if you want to skip ahead).
It was an incredibly fast shoot -- I was on set all of 7 hours as a consultant; making sure that whatever the director wanted, I would be able to pull-off later in post.
I worked only in a VFX capacity on this one. And was responsible for all animation and compositing -- which took about 6 weeks, working around my day job.
A well crafted video with a good story, and the monster is great!
Thanks Nick! :)
Totally Tubular! I love it, such high production values. Excellent monster design and animation. Congrats!
Great work! The design, animation, and VFX all work well together.
That's fantastic, lovely puppet, well animated and great concept. Thee whole thing works very well indeed
