Announcing the 1st Ever StopMotionAnimation.com STOPMO JAM!

What is it?

An opportunity for animators to be a part of a stop motion experimental film.

How does it work?

You animate at home or in your studio. Your animation takes place on a simple white set. A white sweep is best. (see set examples below) Your subject(s) must enter frame at the start and exit frame by the end so that the next shot can be cut together with yours. One shot, no cuts, up to 20 seconds in length.

Deadline to complete animation is April 18, 2016. Once all entries are submitted, I'll cut them together and feature the final film here on StopMotionAnimation.com.

RULES AND GUIDELINES

I will update this as needed so check back occasionally.

Deadline: April 18, 2016 (extended from April 1)

Theme: Spring (all definitions of the word)

Shot length: Up to 20 seconds. One shot, no cuts.

Set Floor and Background must be white, a white sweep is a good way to accomplish this. Your shot must start with a blank white frame and end the same way.

Puppets can be made of clay, paper, foam, wire, sand, whichever materials you can utilize to create your design but it must be stop motion animated. Sorry no LEGOs, action figures, toys, or store bought items are allowed UNLESS it is modified (painted, covered with paper or clay, etc). The goal is to make a hand-made experimental film. Stop motion puppets, 2d cutouts, sand, painting, pixelation, all hand-made animation techniques allowed as long as it is against a white field. Depending on interest, there may be a LEGO JAM or a CLAY JAM in the future.

Audio, dialogue, sound effects are allowed but no music please. I will try to either have music composed or find music that fits the whole film if needed.

Content must be ok for kids to watch. Please nothing political. I reserve the right not to include your animation if it doesn't fit into these guidelines. If you have any questions, please post below.

---------

Technical Guidelines

Frame Rate: 24fps

Aspect Ratio 1920 x 1080

Compression Codec: H264

Once your animation is complete, contact me and I'll provide you with a way to upload your finished Quicktime movie.

Title and Credit: At the end of the film, I will display a frame from your animation with the title and your name next to it similar to the sample credit card pictured below. Please no title or credits in your actual animation.

WOW! 43 Entries and counting! Deadline is today. If you need a little more time, contact me today and let me know where you are at. There may be a little wiggle room as I am cutting everything together this week. A rough cut will be sent to the Composer on Friday. Please make sure you have sent me the Title of your Jam and all Credits you would like to appear on the title card.

Here is an example of what your Title/Credit could look like. I will grab frames from your Jam and include whatever credits will fit on one card. It may just be a still frame or possibly animated frames.

Thanks to all who participated in the 1st Ever StopMotionAnimation.com STOPMO JAM!
Over 50 entries! The film will now be compiled and tweaked while the film's sound and music are created. I will let you all know when it will be ready for its premiere!

Thanks to you Anthony for this jam idea!! I enjoyed myself

Yeah; awesome work everyone!  Even before final cut, this is a real fun piece.

Way to go everybody!  That is some great jam.

Loved the rough cut!  Awesome job everyone :)

Teaser Trailer coming soon!

That was fun! (the rough cut) ;)

Rough cut looked great. Lots of different visions.

Great animation everyone! It was a fun project to be involved in.

Congrats to all the JAM participants, this first STOPMO JAM is really starting to come together. Many of you were able to view the Preview of the Jam I had up for a very limited time. I heard nothing but positive things. To me it is pure creativity!

The JAM is now in the hands of the composer who will work with his musicians to create a custom score for the film. Not sure when it'll be done but I told him not to rush it. He will first start on the newly cut Teaser Trailer so hopefully we'll have that out soon for everyone to see.

MEANWHILE…to safeguard everyone involved in this project, I sent out Consent Forms earlier today and WHAM just like that 36 of you have already returned them. Thank you! Your Jams will definitely be included in the final film. I still need to hear back from the rest of you though. If you haven't done so, please check your email and reply asap. (if you agree with the terms that is) If you haven't received the form, contact me and I'll resend it.

I'll be working on the credit sequence this week. I will email you the updated credit list soon with the changes you asked for. This will be your last chance to change anything.

Several people have asked if I plan to do this again. That is a good question! Let's see how this one does and then I'll decide. :)

Not sure why that is happening. Haven't changed the address or password. I know one other person was having trouble originally, not sure if she ever got in. May be an issue with Vimeo.

Anyone else getting these errors?

Am I the only one that can't sign in to see the video? Doesn't seem to want to let me see it. I get an error message saying I can't watch it with my current setup? Ridiculous as this is the computer I used last time. Anyone?
